Why Equine Therapy & Storytelling?
Horses live their lives in the moment, and they don’t think about whether their reaction is appropriate or not. They react when they feel something in their body. It is because of this that they can only connect with humans when we connect to our hearts and what a deep truth is. Horses cannot connect when we are stuck in our heads but rather when we connect to our bodies and heart. Horses provide honest feedback and it is there that humans can make the decision to take their cues to bring awareness to those places that hold sadness, angry, frustration etc.
Horses help with building a strong foundation to build upon. A foundation that enables humans to build a strong emotional structure that continues to support us in a healthier way. Their communication is clear and concise and only when we are clear can they feel safe with us. Storytelling can be powerful when we communicate our deep truths and become vulnerable, it enables us to connect deeply with our audience. There are times when we might not even know our truth about our story. Our environment does not provide spaces to speak the truth about the story, so we tend to tell the “Readers Digest” version therefore we jump over the truth many times until it is lost. The horses at Equine Enrichment will support you as you dig deeper to reveal parts of your story and will help you communicate that clearly.
The needs of a horse are that we support them to have clarity of mind meaning that we support them to feel as though they don’t need to take care of everything around them and can focus on us alone, clarity of space meaning that we are clear in our special communication and are calm in our space, and finally, clarity in pressure, meaning that we can teach horses to think through a pressure which builds confidence. Horses are not all confident by nature and even those that appear to be confident can struggle at times. They are not natural-born leaders; however one must take that role in the herd to produce a feeling of safety and calm.
